Live Demonstrations at WHEN Recycling Expo East 2010

James River Equipment

With the recent announcement that James River Equipment has added Morbark recycling equipment to their familiar line John Deere Construction line, company officials are pleased to announce that there will be a Morbark horizontal grinder demonstration at the Waste Handling Equipment News Expo-East (WREE), Friday October 15 and Saturday October 16, 2010 at the Augusta Expoland in Fishersville, VA. The WHEN Recycling Expo East (WREE), located less than one mile from James River’s Fishersville dealership, will offer visitors the opportunity to watch equipment being demonstrated under conditions that recyclers would find at the jobsite.

“We are excited about exhibiting at WREE this year,” said Zen Erskine, Inventory Manager at James River-Fishersville. “By offering demonstrations during both days of the show, it will offer attendees the opportunity to see the equipment up close. We are expecting a lot of visitors to our exhibit.”

Erskine said that the addition of the Morbark line complements their current lineup of their Wirtgen Group of products, which includes the Kleeman line of crushers and screens. They also offer the Hamm, Vogele and Wirtgen brands, in addition to their John Deere line of construction and forestry equipment. In addition to their John Deere line of equipment attachments, they also offer LaBounty and Indeco attachments as well.

“We offer wood recyclers a one-stop shopping experience,” said Erskine. “From front end loaders, to chippers, shredders, grinders and screens, we offer everything that a composting or wood waste recycler might need.”

Not surprisingly, with the availability of construction equipment from these manufacturers, James River Equipment is also able to meet the needs of the mining and aggregate industry with the Hitachi line of mining equipment and heavy haul trucks.

“We currently have dealerships at 25 locations in three states, Virginia, and North and South Carolina,” he added. “At least 12 of them feature our construction and forestry line of John Deere equipment.”

“We are encouraging WREE visitors to stop by our exhibit and demonstration area to see how effectively James River Equipment serves the Mid-Atlantic region with construction, forestry and wood processing equipment.”  For more information, contact them online at www.jamesriverequipment.com or at 540 337 3057.

Enterprising Europa, Inc

EEI-Trevi Benne attachments make site work easier

If you are looking for an economical and efficient way to crush or screen recycled material or aggregate waste while working on the jobsite, then a stop at Outdoor Exhibit Area K at this year’s WHEN Recycling Expo East (WREE) in Fishersville, VA on Friday and Saturday Oct. 15 and 16, could change the way you currently do business.

According to Roland Jarl, who will be demonstrating a crushing bucket and a screening bucket manufactured by Trevi Benne, these two rugged attachments might be just the equipment you need. It won’t take long to see the results. Jarl, who along with his wife Zoya, own and operate the Enterprising Europa Group of companies and are the exclusive marketing group for EEI-Trevi Benne products in the U.S., says that there are dozens of ways that these two attachments can help recyclers resize and screen concrete and/or asphalt material with a minimum of expense and time.

“If a producer is screening material that is destined for a state DOT and they want to eliminate as many fines as possible, the screening bucket is excellent for that,” he said. “They can size the material as they load it into a dump truck with one of our screening buckets attached to an excavator.”

More importantly, Jarl says that the screens are very easy to replace if the user wishes to change the size of the product material. “The screens for the bucket come in four sections,” he says. “That makes changing them a very simple process. From the smallest buckets to the biggest buckets, the process is very quick and simple.”

Jarl explains that because most contractors already own an excavator, adding a new screening bucket or crushing bucket to their line of equipment is far more economical than buying an entire piece of equipment to do the same job.

The crushing bucket is designed to “downsize” material, which according to Jarl, helps contractors meet the ever changing list of rules that are implemented by the EPA, especially those that regulate noise and dust conditions. “With the crushing bucket, because it is small, you can take it right to the jobsite and crush material without making excessive noise or dust as you would with a much larger portable crusher,” he says. “It is ideal for that application.”

“For smaller jobs, these buckets are very economical and easy to use. For example, where a C&D contractor has taken down a building and there is still a foundation to remove, the crushing bucket downsizes the concrete so it doesn’t have to be removed from the site, it can be used as fill instead. In other aggregate situations, it is often easier and more economical to run larger rock through a crushing bucket than to rent or purchase a larger, portable machine.”

Another of the EEI Group’s products that Jarl will feature at WREE, is RockFrac® rock splitting mortar. RockFrac® is a non-explosive demolition tool that is extremely useful in many situations. When a job calls for splitting rock or concrete where conventional blasting materials would be too noisy, would create too much vibration, or simply would not be safe to use, RockFrac rock splitting mortar is the product of choice. This is especially important in residential or commercial applications, where noise considerations are always in play.

According to Jarl, “RockFrac has proven to be more reliable than Bristar, Betonamit, FRACT.AG, S-Mite, Dexspan and Da-Mite. It works in all weather conditions and yields stronger expansive strength and faster reaction with water. When controlled demolition with no sound or vibration is essential, then this is the product of choice,” he said.

Jarl also plans to have a static display of EEI-Trevi Benne demolition and recycling tools that the EEI Group represents. For more information on the EEI Group, contact Roland Jarl at 201-236-0969; online at www.eei-us.com or via e-mail at info@theEEIgroup.com.

Virginia Biomass Energy Group to participate in the WHEN Recycling Expo East

The Virginia Biomass Energy Group (VBEG) will hold its quarterly event this fall as part of the Waste Handling Equipment News Recycling Expo (WREE) being held Friday and Saturday, Oct. 15-16 at the Augusta Expoland in Fishersville, VA. The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 12 noon Friday, at a designated location to be named later. More details will be available as plans are finalized.
VBEG, a broad collection of over 170 academics, producers, investors, government officials and others with an interest in Virginia's biomass energy resources, recently held its Second Annual Conference on June 21, 2010 at the Virginia Farm Bureau Headquarters near Richmond.
“We had a great day,” said Al Weed, chairman of Public Policy Virginia, the group that administrates VBEG and who coordinated the meeting. “From Michael Schewel’s keynote address on the economic potential for biomass in Virginia to the three expert panel discussions, we covered a lot of ground in one day. It was an overload of information, but a single takeaway is clear; we can meet the challenges and capitalize on great opportunities in Virginia, and the time is now.”
“We are already planning next year's conference focusing on applied biomass — how the biomass community in Virginia can work together to get things moving; to begin creating jobs and profits in the Commonwealth,” Weed continued. “With our organization’s presence at the Expo in Fishersville, we offer the perfect way to get this discussion started. We’re excited to be a part of what will surely be an important event.”
The recent conference’s first panel discussion covering the urban impact of biomass energy included presentations on water issues, the use of brownfields for biomass projects, and the prospect of using municipal solid waste as a biomass resource. The second panel discussion, devoted to sustainability, looked at biomass uses and the Chesapeake Bay and the long term potential for algae. The final panel of the day looked at feedstock management systems for grass crops, short rotation woody crops and existing forest resources.
“The first two sessions looked at the big picture,” Weed added. “What are the secondary impacts? What are the sustainability challenges? Where will current research lead us down the road? But it was the third session where we saw how the rubber can hit the road — and this is where the organization can focus its attention now,” Weed reflected.
Formed in 2006, The Virginia Biomass Energy Group is a collaborative network established to encourage and foster growth of the biomass energy industry in a sustainable, profitable and responsible manner. Membership is free and open to all. More information can be found at www.virginiabiomass.org.

Virginia Forestry Association develops plans for WREE exhibit

The Virginia Forestry Association (VFA) will be exhibiting at the WHEN Recycling Expo East (WREE) Friday October 15 and Saturday October 16, at the Augusta County Expoland facility in Fishersville, VA. According to Executive Director , Paul R. Howe, Forest Industry professionals will have the opportunity to consider new ways to expand their markets by calling upon VFA representatives as they seek information in any of several areas. He said that the recycling of wood products and the production of bio-mass materials is becoming an extremely important part of the business economy surrounding the forest industry, and this would be an excellent time to have their questions answered.

“We are extremely pleased to be exhibiting at this year’s WHEN Recycling Expo,” said Howe. “We are looking forward to working with everyone who is associated with the future of forest resources, especially those in Virginia.”

According to Howe, the Virginia Forestry Association is a not-for-profit organization that is dedicated to sustaining, developing, protecting, and promoting the forests and related resources of Virginia. With the emergence of wood biomass as an important part of the industry, WREE will be the ideal venue in which to share the latest information during the show’s two-day run.

VFA seeks to maintain a political and economic climate favorable for forest ownership and forest industry in the state and to enhance the public’s perception of forestry through effective outreach and communication. With Virginia’s close proximity to the nation’s Capitol, the Commonwealth serves as an ideal example of responsible woodland stewardship .

VFA membership consists of forest landowners, foresters, forest product businesses, loggers, forestry consultants, and a variety of individuals and groups who are concerned about this important industry. Many other industries depend on a healthy forestry sector and the local availability of forest commodities. Accordingly, many firms and workers depend upon the expenditures of forestry-related industries for their wages, salaries and profits. The industry has a annual $23.4 billion impact on Virginia’s economy ,

Interestingly enough, in Virginia, forests provide $2.4 billion in benefits each year to Virginia’s citizens through recreational activities such as hunting, hiking, and camping on forested land. The societal value of forests is expanding in importance as urban sprawl and development continue to encroach on forestland. Other social and commercial benefits that are more difficult to quantify include carbon sequestration, stabilization of soil, wildlife habitat, flood mitigation, improved water quality and quality of life in general. These non-market services are estimated at more than $1.7 billion annually.
